The Rainbow Bakery in Kingsland Road sells a really tasty selection of West Indian pastries, breads and patties. Really difficult to find and, when you do, it's not exceptional. The stalls are pseudo organic - look pretty but many of the storekeepers, nice though they may be, don't have a clue about ethical issues. Two of the cake stalls that tempted me over admitted, when asked, that they don't use free range eggs although they sell them as "Organic". The trendy air heads that flood through the market really don't care. The vegetable stall was advertising several breeds of puppy - ask any ethical London vet what their views are on the sale of puppies in the capital. They also buy all their fruit and veg in plastic bags while the stall next to it is trying to encourage customers to stop using them! Great that they do but at least ensure the stall holders also avoid non-recyclable plastics! Please, if you must give your custom to such places, ask about what you're buying!
