Went here on a sunny sunday evening and sat in the patio area at the back. Found the food to be good value and it had a nice atmosphere...but the Turkish bread was disappointing!Went here on a sunny sunday evening and sat in the patio area at the back. Take the groundfloor of a warehouse, on a forgotten side street off a lively but somewhat bedraggled high street. Add a coffee counter, some chairs, some wifi. Then stop. Until the evening, when you get a variety of musicians to transform the place into... well, I'm not sure - I've only ever been in the afternoon.

Still, if you want somewhere to sit and genuinely have a long conversation for the price of a coffee, beer, tea, juice, quiche and/or cookie, what with the free wi-fi and the general relaxedness of the place, you could do a lot worse. And there's so much room, which is practically unheard of in Dalston.

A word of caution. It's a bit cold. That might be my poor circulation. Or it could be the fact that it's an old warehouse. Yes, that would be it.

A second word of caution - don't go in when they're tuning the piano. Unless you like listening to the same note 700 times with infinitesimal tonal variations. Then again, maybe you do. It takes a lot of effort for me and my housemates to keep from going to Mass Cafe at least once every weekend. The breakfasts there are so delicious-- it's a very nice, clean cafe in Hackney. I always get the Mess Breakfast, which is gorgeous. I'm sure their sandwiches, burgers and salads are ok too but I never seem to get past the breakfast menu!

The staff are very friendly, though they can get a bit stressed when it gets busy, as it often does on weekends. It's a small place and if it's a nice day you can bet it will be packed by 11.30am. They recently upped their prices slightly, but I suppose that's to be expected what with the rising price of food. Evin Cafe in Kingsland High Street is a really special cafe/restaurant that serves up some truly delectable Turkish food at incredible prices. The house specialty is called a Gozleme, which is a kind of stuffed pancake that''s both amazingly tasty and an absolute bargain.
